How to Potty Train a Puppy

Potty training is mostly about routine, not luck. Puppies do best when bathroom breaks happen at the same times and in the same place every day.

Start with a consistent schedule: right after waking up, after meals, after play sessions, and right before bed. Puppies typically need a bathroom break every 1–2 hours in the early weeks.

Pick one designated spot outside (or one indoor training pad location) and bring your puppy there every time. The consistency helps them learn faster than moving the spot around.

Positive reinforcement works better than correction. A calm, happy tone and a small reward right after your puppy goes in the right spot reinforces the habit far more effectively than scolding accidents.

A training spray, like PELMOK's Potty Training Spray, can help reinforce the designated spot by giving your puppy a consistent scent cue to return to.

Accidents are part of the process. Clean them thoroughly so the smell doesn't invite a repeat visit, and stay consistent — most puppies are reliably trained within a few weeks to a few months.
